Specializing in primary, elementary and intermediate education, Fern Hill combines the best traditional learning approaches with individualized techniques that have proven to be effective in engaging young minds.

French, Music and Physical Education are taught by subject specialists beginning in Preschool. Starting in Grade 3, History, Geography and Science are taught as separate subjects. French Geography is introduced in Grade 6 and Foreign Language study is offered in Grades 7 and 8. The IBM ThinkPad programme in Grade 8 enables students to use technology to complete their courses. Students also have the opportunity to take a Grade 9 secondary school credit course in French and Computers, and Grade 9 and 10 secondary school credit courses in Math.

Drama, Music and Art all play an important role in the curriculum at Fern Hill School. We believe studying and experiencing different artistic pursuits is essential to the social, emotional, physical and educational development and well-being of every child. Fern Hill’s Drama, Vocal, Instrumental Music and Visual Arts programmes help children discover, develop and express their own inner creativity.

The Fern Hill Way

“The best teachers have equal amounts of Einstein and Chagall, at once creative and resourceful, as well as mindful and imaginative.”
—Dr. Lawrence Sykoft

Each and every success our students experience is made possible by the skilled professionals who guide our children throughout their educational journey with us. Fern Hill’s subject-specific teachers are passionate about their field of study and pass their enthusiasm and knowledge on to the students throughout the learning process.

Our teachers supply the tools required to lay a strong foundation in a subject-specific curriculum that enables our students to develop the skills necessary to help them become the best they can be. Just peek into any classroom and you will see children striving to push their limits and trying new things. Our teachers are committed to instilling confidence and building the skills that will serve each student for a lifetime.

Leadership opportunities are threaded throughout the grades and throughout the curriculum. Events and activities such as our art exhibition, school musical, house league sports, and morning assembly are all part of Fern Hill’s confidence-building philosophy. At Fern Hill, we also believe it is important for students to be able to express themselves with confidence, courage, comfort and acceptance. Sharing their talents in front of their peers is a part of this process, and the daily morning assembly provides a forum for students to be supported as both a performer and as an audience. The applause of their peers, parents and teachers gives each participant the courage to share their talents, to be themselves and to look forward to the first 15 minutes of each school day. The morning assembly is where three-year-olds to 13-year-olds bond as a community.
